Forum: GratefulDead Subject: "the playin' show"?

back when i first found this site due to the amount of years and shows i was just bouncing around from show to show and year to year. but i remember finding a show that was interesting in that they continually segued in and out of pitb. or at least i think i remember finding a show like that. i also remember reading a review dubbing this as "the playin' show". i just cant remember the date or year. can anyone tell me the date of this show or if its just a pigment of my imagination?

Along w/ el's '73 , PITB had 3 other ' triplet ' performances .

( the post China Doll clearly has a PITB theme )

"A pigment of my imagination".

I don't know if that is a mistype or deliberate, but it sure fits better than "figment" in relation to this band. I hope that pigment had a psychedelic tinge to it. :)

I'm pretty sure you are talking about this show at the Cap Centre in '82.

The show kicks off with Playin > CF and four or five times during the 1st set (including Playin Jam > Red Rooster and Playin Jam > LIG), Jerry performs a little Playin jam into the start of songs. It's a theme that is continued in the second set as well (Shakedown > Playin Jam). It's also the first "Touch" encore and a nice unique show to have in the collection

Sweet--I didn't know about this one. How much do I love this site and exploring the greatest 30 years in American musical history? LOTS&LOTS. Downloading now. Thanks, Purple Gel, for the recommendation.

That's an interesting one. I think they were trying to shake up the set list at the time and doing the usual 2nd set stuff in the 1st set. Must have confused some people!

Just listened to this the other day . I wasn't paying attention , and thought had mislabeled the cds, and put the 2nd set cd in first ! Great stuff .

haha yeah the "pigment" was an error but since you enjoy it i'll take credit for it. honestly, i wasnt expecting there to be many shows like this and i doubt i will be able to figure which is the show im looking for but they are all interesting and this a better outcome. so thanks for everyone's suggestions and they are much appreciated.

Here's another one.

I saw one review that claims Billy says to Weir as they start the encore, "Hey Bob, maybe we should go back into playin' again."
